Day 1

We spent the first part of camp learning about each other, including some fun name games. The campers helped us to establish the rules for camp, and then we went outside to do a scavenger hunt using GPS handsets and clues provided in latitude and longitude (it stopped raining!). After our first meal in the UW dining hall, we learned about the different sizes in the universe, from tiny atoms all they way up to the entire cosmos. Finally, the theme of our camp is "Journey to the Stars", and the campers brainstormed reasons why we may eventually need to seek out another planet and colonize it. The remainder of the camp builds upon this theme, and you'll see in this camp's blog how the students will learn the principles of rocketry, the science of stars and planets, how to identify life, and more. Stay tuned.
