Day 3

On Tuesday we spent a good deal of the morning learning about and experimenting with the engineering design properties of rockets. We made some test launches, and then came back in the afternoon with new and improved rockets and had a contest to see which launch angle(s) provided the longest distances traveled. Some of these paper rockets flew 100 meters using launchers pressurized with just a bike pump! Another activity included measuring the height of a tall building by recording the time it took a dropped ball to land. The fourth dropped "ball" was a watermelon that went splat! We also learned more about the lives and deaths of stars, how to design a space suit, and the how long it would take us to travel to nearby stars in a realistic spaceship.
